Sharing Your Faith
We are called to share our faith with others so they
will know the message of the Gospel. But how do we
share? Is there some specific pattern or formula
that we should follow? In truth, there is no “best”
way to share your faith. All that is required is
that you share your story with others so they will
know how they also can receive the free gift of
salvation. It is your testimony; just be open,
honest and authentic and others will see the truth
through your transparency. You are the best
authority on your experience of salvation.
Look for opportunities to share your faith with
those around you. Remember that the grace you have
received is for everyone and that God has placed you
where you are so you will tell others about Him. Let
the Holy Spirit guide you and all your efforts –
successful or not – will be for God’s glory.
Although there is no “best” way to share, here is a
template that can help you get started. Use three
simple questions to help you talk about the change
that Christ has had in your life.
- What was my life like before becoming a
Christian?
What were my desires, attitudes, and needs? What
did my life revolved around? What was my focus?
- How did I receive Christ?
How did God get your attention? Was there an
event, a person, a circumstance, a revelation
involved? Where did you hear about Christ?
- What is my life like since I accepted Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior?
How did your life change (refer back to life
before Christ)? What are your motivations now?
Who or what directs your life? How do you see
things differently? How do you act differently?
Listed are a few tips that are useful when
sharing your faith:
- Use conversational style; no preaching
- Be honest about what you have
experienced
- Keep it short (no more than 3 minutes),
vivid, simple, personal and true
- Don’t feel the need to “just get it
out,” allow dialogue and questions from the
person with whom you are sharing
- Do not glorify past sins
- Explain that chasing other things does
not satisfy
- Share how you realized you needed Jesus
and WHY you needed Jesus
- Feature Christ (WHO He is and WHAT He
has done)
- Never paint a picture of complete bliss
as if nothing bad ever happens anymore
- Keep it simple, clear and short – don’t
keep on and on; let them ask for more
- Listen to what the other person has to
say and attempt to answer questions without
being condescending or negative
- Don’t react emotionally to criticism –
you know your place in Christ and can be
assured in that!
Just remember, the important thing is to
share the new life you have in Christ and
let Him work out the details of the
encounter.
