The number one characteristic of something that is
alive is that it grows. God wants us to continually
grow in our walk with Him until we leave this earth.
Growing in our spiritual walk with Christ is called
discipleship.
Discipleship takes two forms: being discipled and
discipling others. One must be discipled and grow in
his/her walk with Jesus before he/she can disciple
someone else. This was modeled with Jesus’s
disciples. He discipled them, and they discipled
others. Here at First Alpharetta, we want to help
our members grow in the spiritual walk with Jesus
and help equip them to lead others in their journey
as they experience new life in Christ. This is the
focus of the “GROW!” part of our strategy.
We help people grow and experience the transformed
life Paul talks about in Romans: “And do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind…” (Rom. 12:2). A transformed
life can then be multiplied by the one who has been
transformed helping others in this journey,
following Paul’s example: “Be imitators of me, as I
also am of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1).
Discipleship is accomplished by a spiritually mature
leader helping others grow in their spiritual walk.
We provide small group studies and ministries to
help facilitate this environment. We also encourage
and equip others to personal discipleship to follow
the example of Jesus with His disciples in the
Gospels. Whatever environment is best for you, we
are here to help you GROW in your spiritual journey.
